Engine performance & gif animations
Written by Stefan Hendriks

I have had a weekend off with my girlfriend. But ofcourse my best friend , tha 'laptop' went with me and i had 2 hours of time to spend on the game. Basicly i have added some optimizations and i was quite suprised to see that i got over 900 FPS sometimes on my laptop. While on my 'new computer' i have half of that. I am investigating why and how about that right now.

Besides that, i have made the GIF animations a bit more fun, with nicer fading etc. I have also completed the ordos gif animation by hand. Like Nema Fakei did with the Harkonnen one. Frame by frame capturing, pasting, etc. Very nice work, ugh.

All in all it ends up nicely, but also eats more MB. Unzipped the GIF animtions already take 3 MB now. There goes optimizations huh... Well even zipped its 3 MB, so i can't optimize it further. Don't worry, its a nice package. And i am pretty sure that later on the updates will be smaller. But for now on, a download of 5 MB orso is unavoidable. (Ah, and what is 5 MB anyways, in an age where you download tons of MP3's anyways? :P)...

Compressed GIF animations work now

Remember the current demo? 3.3 MB of GIF animations. But optimizations made would reduce size, but would not let D2TM play the GIF animations. However. While playing around with my GIF animator delivered with PSP 9. I figured i could optimize the GIF files, AND let them play in D2TM.

Lets throw some figures in:

First: 3.3 MB GIF

Now: 850Kb

Satisfied? ;)
